Father’s Day 2022 Tribute – Emilio Palafox

A Tribute to My Dad

This day, I honor the man who helped me become who I am today–a child of God.  Because of your passion for God, it pointed me to my Heavenly Father.  The picture you painted before your children was one of love, protection and self sacrifice.

If there was one word to describe you, I would have to say, “passionate”.  That’s how you approached everything.  I remember, as a young child, asking you a question about my homework. I got an hour-long teaching about whatever it was!  But that was you.  All that you did, you put your heart into it.

How you loved God’s word! You loved teaching & sharing it! I love how you would go after the lost with such dedication and passion wanting them to know your God, even being rejected, did not stop you.

It’s funny how God used you in the seemingly insignificant things to teach us about Himself.  I remember when young that I felt and saw you protecting your children through these situations that touched my heart.

You were known in the neighborhood for calling us in from playing WHILE IT WAS STILL LIGHT

because the “sun was down” (just over the mountain). But you didn’t want us to be out after “dark”!

When Dick & I were dating, you would switch the light off and on while Dick and I were

sitting in the car to let me know “it was time” to come in. I also remember the time you placed

“escape” money in my hand on my first date with Dick “in case I smelled a rat”!  Haha!

You made sure we would be safe in our home by your nightly ritual of checking and locking

all the doors.  We felt your love as you made sure we had all we wanted to eat before you would

eat. As a married adult, you were still watching and caring for me. When I would come over, not

feeling well, you would rush to see what medicine you had that might help me.

All these seemingly little things painted a picture of sacrificial love, protection, and care to me and all your children.

Because of your love and sacrifice, it was easy to love and trust our Heavenly Father because you paved the way for us. We all saw Him and felt His love through you and the life you lived because you loved Him.

Thank you for the passion for God that you instilled in each one of us. I am ever so grateful to you, and I pray that I will pass on that same passion even as you did. I will always love and miss you!
